Why is WIC providing more fruits and vegetables?

 

  • As part of the American Rescue Plan Act, the amount for fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables will be temporarily increased to a total of $35 a month for each WIC client over the age of 1 year.

Who receives the $35 each month?

  • Women and children (over the age of 1) who are on WIC.

 

How long will I receive the increased amount for fruits and vegetables?

  • The increased amount is available from July 1 - September 30, 2021.

How will I receive this increased amount?

  • Your WIC benefits will be mailed to you. This will include a total of $35 per month for fruits and vegetables. If you have more than one family member on WIC over age 1, you will receive a $35 in checks for each person.

Where can I find recipes using fruits and vegetables?

Check out these resources for ideas and recipes:

  • WIChealth.org - Health eKitchen is an online library of recipes and videos for cooking with WIC foods. WICHealth.org is also where you may be doing your nutrition education activity. If you don’t have an account yet, ask your WIC office for your Family ID to sign up!

  • WICShopper App – Recipes – Find recipes that include WIC foods and fruits and vegetables, or on the app using your smartphone or tablet.

  • MyPlate Kitchen – Search from a large selection of recipes, create your own cookbook, or watch videos to learn how to prepare healthy foods for your family
